In support of Alaa al-Aswany

On 14 March, Egypt Today reported that the celebrated novelist Alaa alAswany is to be sued in the Egyptian military court for ‘insulting the president, the Armed Forces, and judicial institutions’ in the articles he writes for the German broadcaster and website Deutsche Welle.

As Alaa’s British publisher, we at Faber are gravely concerned by this news. We stand shoulder to shoulder with Alaa in the name of free speech and freedom of expression. We ask, too, for your urgent support in drawing attention to this situation.

More details on this extremely troubling story are available here: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/mar/19/egyptian-dissident-writer-alaa-al-aswany-sued-by-military-prosecutors

With thanks for your support and solidarity.
