Sir Geoffrey Faber (1889 – 1961) was the chairman, first of Faber and Gwyer Ltd., and then from 1929 until his retirement in 1960, Faber & Faber Ltd. He became a prominent figure in the world of publishing and as President of the Publishers’ Association fought a successful campaign in 1940 to prevent taxation on books. Books were made exempt as they still are.
He was knighted in 1954.
