The queen of historical fiction, best-selling author of the current Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month Secrets of a Sun King, Emma Carroll, returns to World War II with a collection of exciting new short stories of evacuation, dark secrets and an animal rescue service.

World Rights in When we were Warriors were acquired by Stella Paskins, Editor at Faber Children’s from Emily Talbot at United Agents. When we were Warriors will publish in February 2019.

With this irresistible return to World War II, the reader is taken back to the times of Emma Carroll’s most popular novels; with stories from the eras of both Letters from the Lighthouse and Frost Hollow Hall, Emma explores the resilience, resourcefulness and inventiveness of children when all around them the world is falling apart.

About Emma Carroll:

Emma Carroll was a secondary school English teacher before leaving to write full time. She has also worked as a news reporter, an avocado picker and the person who punches holes into filofax paper. She graduated with distinction from Bath Spa University’s MA in Writing For Young People. She lives in the Somerset hills with her husband and two terriers.
