Faber announces the publication of Kudos by Rachel Cusk

Kudos is the third novel in a trilogy comprising Outline (2014) and Transit (2016). It will be published in hardback on 3 May 2018, alongside paperback reissues of the first two novels.

Mitzi Angel, Publisher, says: “Rachel Cusk’s novel completes her masterful trilogy with overwhelming power. In electrifying prose, Cusk asks: how might we reconstitute a person? How might we reconstruct a family? Can we rebuild a country tearing itself apart? She writes about our responsibilities: our responsibilities towards ourselves and towards other people. She writes about our failures and our successes as human beings. She asks: do we get kudos for having suffered? Faber & Faber is proud to publish Cusk’s trilogy, which will be remembered as one of the most significant achievements of our times.”

Rachel Cusk was born in Canada in 1967 and moved to the United Kingdom in 1974. She is the author of nine novels and three works of non-fiction. She has won and been shortlisted for numerous prizes: Transit (2016) was shortlisted for the Goldsmiths Prize and was a Guardian Book of the Year, a New Statesman Book of the Year, an Observer Book of the Year, a Spectator Book of the Year; Outline (2014) was shortlisted for the Folio Prize, the Goldsmiths Prize, the Baileys Prize, the Giller Prize and the Canadian Governor General’s Award. It was also picked by the New York Times as one of the top ten books of the year. In 2003, Rachel Cusk was nominated by Granta magazine as one of 20 Best of Young British Novelists. In 2015 her version of Euripides’ Medea was put on at the Almeida Theatre with Rupert Goold directing and was shortlisted for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.

“In her effort to expose the illusions of both fiction and life, she may have discovered the most genuine way to write a novel today.” Ruth Franklin, The Atlantic

“These two short books are part of a project trilogy, and together they’re already a serious achievement: dense, aphoristic, philosophically acute novels that read like Iris Murdoch thrice distilled. Increasingly, I’m more interested in getting my hands on the final instalment in Ms. Cusk’s series than I am the last of Karl Ove Knausgaard’s My Struggle books.” Dwight Garner, New York Times (on Transit)

“A work of stunning beauty, deep in insight and great originality … Transit is a slender novel that contains multitudes.” Monica Ali, New York Times

“Winter bouquets should be offered to the clever and stylish Rachel Cusk: her novel Outline is smoothly accomplished, and fascinating both on the surface and in its depths.” Hilary Mantel, Guardian
