Faber Social unveils year ahead

We’re pleased to unveil our brand new Faber Social list for the year ahead.

The list includes Side by Side, the lyrics of Robert Wyatt and Alfie Benge, introduced by Jarvis Cocker (September 2020); Kate Tempest’s first work of non-fiction, a short, radical ‘theory of creativity’ about the power of connection to act as an antidote to numbness (October 2020); Sweet Dreams, the definitive history of the New Romantics by Dylan Jones (October 2020); and Scottish National Poet Jackie Kay on the tempestuous life of blues singer Bessie Smith (February 2021).

These join exciting recent acquisitions from Cosey Fanni Tutti, Joe Boyd and Kate Molleson, to be published in 2022/23, as well as a new project from music and culture writer Aniefiok ‘Neef’ Ekpoudom, Where We Come From, which will explore the social and cultural legacy of UK rap and grime, won in an auction from Emma Finn (C&W) and due to be published in 2022.

Alexa von Hirschberg, who joined Faber as Head of Faber Social in September, commented:

‘Faber Social already occupies a unique place in the publishing landscape when it comes to quality books about music and contemporary culture. The goal is to take this wonderful list in bold new directions – new voices, new genres and new perspectives.

‘We are very proud to be publishing such dynamic and exceptional authors, and excited to be pushing the boundaries of what music publishing can achieve.’
