We are eagerly counting down to the best day of the year, World Book Day.

To make life a little easier, we have put together some brilliant costume ideas inspired by some of our characters.

On Thursday 5^th March 2020, the world will join us in our passion for sharing amazing stories with children.

Celebrated for 23 years and across 100 different countries, World Book Day is a day devoted to giving each child, tween and teen a book of their own. We celebrate authors, illustrators and sensational storytelling, bringing books to life through engaging workshops and fun resources.

We love seeing the creative costumes that bring our characters to life on this day! Have you and your family decided whom you will be dressing up as this year? We’ve put together some great guides to help you transform into some of our favourite characters. Click on any character below to add a little more detail to your costume.

For fans of the brilliantly funny series by Swapna Haddow and Sheena Dempsey. Dress up like Dave with our handy printable mask and complete the look by putting your arm in a sling!

Pet is Awkwaeke Emezi’s stunning YA debut and you can dress up like protagonist Jam using our feather sheet and combining with some decorated pyjamas.

Dress up as your favourite of Eliot’s cats, Macavity the Mystery Cat. Use our mask template and practice your cat walk!

Matt Millz – Matt Millz

Dress up like our favourite young stand-up comedian, Harry Hill and Steve May’s Matt Millz! Use our glasses template and match with a suit and red trainers and you’ll be ready to take the Apollo by storm in no time.

Fans of Emma Carroll can capture the magic of Letters from the Lighthouse by dressing up as protagonist Olive, a determined twelve-year-old who is ready to crack secret codes and save the town! Use our tie template and combine with a white skirt, grey trousers or shirt.

Dress up as our favourite naughty witch from Claire Barker and Teemu Juhani’s Pickklewitch and Jack. Dress up in a white shirt and black trousers/skirt with stripy tights and a black blazer and customise a witch’s hat with leaves to show off Picklewitch’s love of birds and trees. You can either use real leaves or cut out our leaves template and colour them in.

Fans of Kieran Larwood and David Wyatt’s Podkin can dress up as their favourite rabbit hero with our printable mask and completing the look with earthy colours, a cape and a lantern.

Perfect for young aspiring explorers is our costume idea for Stella from Alex Bell and Teemu Juhani’s The Polar Bear Explorers’ Club. Use our badge template and match with all the clothes you’d need for a snowy expedition.

Squishy – Squishy McFluff

Dress up as our favourite invisible cat, Pip Jones and Ella Okstad’s Squishy McFluff! Use our mask as a template, dress all in white and walk around as silently as possible – you’re invisible after all!

Use our mask template to create the look of Ted Hughes and Chris Mould’s The Iron Man. Complete the look by wearing grey or even create an iron body out of cardboard boxes.
